We are calling for the speed limit on the B3629 through Newtown to be reduced and for clearer signage as people approach and leave the town.
At the moment the limit is 60 mph, even though the road narrows significantly on the approach to Fowey through Newtown. That creates a real danger for everyone using it, especially people living nearby and those travelling through the area. Residents have already witnessed serious accidents over the past few years, and we do not want more families and neighbours affected in the same way.
This is a simple, practical step that could make a real difference. A lower speed limit would give drivers more time to react, and better signs (photo above taken today!!) would help make the road safer and clearer for everyone entering and exiting Newtown.
We are working hard with Cllr Ian Wilson to raise awareness of this issue with the council, and we need your support to keep this moving. Please sign our petition to help reduce the speed limit through Newtown and improve the signage on this stretch of road.

The speed limit of 60 is ridiculous for this narrow road, so close to houses. It is dangerous for drivers passing each other and for pulling out from Newtown cottages on to the main road. You take your life in your hands each time ! Please reduce this from 60 to 40 or 30 before another accident happens.
The speed limit here is far too fast particularly with the blind bend & narrowing if the carriageway, there have been two serious accidents within the last 18 months resulting in serious injuries!
Two serious accidents recently...a narrow one car width road in places, heavy traffic with cars, boats, tractors, caravans, lorries - all driving far too fast. No pavements here either for pedestrians so people have to walk in the road and leap back into the hedges to avoid being knocked over!

As a resident I have witnessed and supported victims of accidents whilst waiting for police and medics to arrive – we must do something to raise awareness reduce the speed and make people know that this is a narrow road with buses tractors et cetera coming towards them.
Because I visit the town yearly with my family and we have to walk down the road to get to the carpark or the garage and I'm scared something will happen to anyone of us
Always accidents here and the road is very narrow especially where the houses are. The limit needs reduction

The 60mph limit through Newtown is far too dangerous and 20mph would be safer. The road is used by large vehicles and the road is narrow, add to that the bends so not good visibility. You often have to pull over into peoples drives/laybys to let the larger vehicles through. It definitely needs the 20 mph speed limit and more signs of hazards.
