Woodland View Estates is a small neighborhood in Parkesburg, PA with single family homes. For many years the speed limit has been 35 MPH, however, with recent shifts in demographics we have an increase in very young children and active residents in addition to an older population that have slower reflexes.

The 35 MPH speed limit is too fast for both the young residents on bicycles and running and playing, and older residents that are maintaining their health by walking. On several occasions we have experienced cars and trucks coming through the neighborhood at or in excess of the posted 35 MPH speed limit and it’s a very dangerous speed when people are walking or playing in the neighborhood.

We are petitioning the West Sadsbury Township to lower the posted speed limit in Woodland View to be 25 MPH and are seeking supporters for that cause.

Updates

July 6, 2021

The increase in support has provided the leverage required to request a formal traffic study from the Township supervisors. I am currently finalizing the letter to the planning board and will submit our petition along with a request for a meeting next week.

35 is definitely too fast for this neighborhood with all the kids and people walking. Unfortunately because the signs are there people (including myself) tend to get going pretty quick without thinking. I've consciously started to limit myself to 25-30 through the neighborhood

Thanks for sharing this petition. We’ve reached out to the township several times over the last year and a half about this exact same issue. I’m glad there is a lot of support for this change. It’s long overdue.

We have too many people walking and playing in this neighborhood for the speed limit to be 35. Because people think that 35 means 45 or 55.

My sister lives in this neighborhood. We visit often. Our children love playing with their cousins & the MANY children in the neighborhood. We were shocked at the speed limit allowed through a residential neighborhood with so many houses & children. It is not a main thoroughfare where you would expect a higher speed limit. Most people would agree in areas like this a lower speed limit would be a better choice to avoid tragedy.

FYI, when we moved in 35 years ago, the speed limit was 25 mph. A few years later, the township took it upon themselves to put 35 mph sighs up.
