Decision Makers: SSM Builders and Promoters

Another monsoon is approaching, yet our rainwater harvesting (RWH) systems across all blocks still need proper cleaning and maintenance. Accumulated mud and silt must be removed, and all recharge pits and related systems must be inspected and made functional before the rains.

Despite repeated requests, the builder and maintenance team have failed to address this issue with the urgency it deserves. This year-after-year negligence must stop.

We residents must also acknowledge our role in this situation. Only a handful of people are consistently raising these concerns, while most remain silent. Unless we stand together and demand accountability, nothing will change.

We are already witnessing water shortages within our community, while tanker lorries continue to draw water from existing wells to supply blocks facing shortages. At a time when water conservation should be a priority, neglecting rainwater harvesting is simply unacceptable.

We need concrete action, not further assurances or delays.

I propose that we come together and initiate a signature campaign requesting the builder and maintenance team to:

  • Clean and inspect all rainwater harvesting systems across every block.
  • Remove accumulated mud, silt and other obstructions.
  • Ensure all recharge pits, wells and associated systems are functional before the monsoon.
  • Share a clear action plan and deadline for completing the work.
  • Implement a regular inspection and maintenance schedule to prevent this issue from recurring every year.

This is a reasonable and necessary demand that concerns every resident. Water conservation and responsible groundwater management are our collective priorities, and the responsibility for maintaining these systems must be taken seriously.

Let us stop treating this as just another complaint in the residents’ group. I urge everyone to support the signature campaign so that we can collectively hold the builder and maintenance team accountable and ensure timely action.

If we remain silent, we will be having this same discussion again next year. Let us unite now and ensure that this time, our concerns lead to real action and accountability.

We have a good space for RWH and a very good structure build for it. Loosing the saving just because of non maintenance is not acceptable.

Being a large campus with a good collection capacity, it is important that we do not allow the rain water to go into the drain and rather harvest it. That requires the existing setup is cleaned and made ready before the monsoon starts.

With a mechanism already in place, it’s imperative we take measures to make it functioning. We need to come together for our sake, and this would help a lot in the long run
