We, the undersigned residents of Pasco County, are deeply concerned about the continued flooding in our yards and streets caused by Hurricane Helene and Milton. Weeks have passed since these events, yet stagnant water remains, creating significant safety, health, and environmental hazards.

Flooded yards are not only an inconvenience but also a breeding ground for mosquitoes, a risk to property values, and a threat to our collective well-being. Despite numerous appeals, it appears that the county has yet to take adequate measures to address this ongoing crisis.

We strongly urge the county to:

  1. Develop and communicate an immediate action plan to mitigate the standing water in affected neighborhoods.
  2. Deploy necessary resources to drain the water and implement preventive measures to protect against future flooding.
  3. Provide transparency and updates to residents regarding progress and timelines for remediation efforts.
  4. Invest in long-term infrastructure improvements to enhance flood management and resilience.

Impact of Development on Water Levels:
We also call attention to the noticeable increase in water levels over the past several years throughout our neighborhoods, which correlates strongly with the surge of development projects in the area. The construction of new housing, businesses, and infrastructure has drastically reduced natural drainage areas such as wetlands and green spaces, while increasing impervious surfaces like roads and parking lots.

These changes have amplified runoff during heavy rains, overwhelming our current drainage systems and exacerbating flooding. As our community continues to grow, it is essential that development is accompanied by sustainable water management practices to mitigate these impacts.

We urge the county to prioritize:

Comprehensive studies on the correlation between new developments and increased flooding. Implementation of green infrastructure solutions, such as retention ponds, permeable surfaces, and rain gardens. Updated regulations and requirements for developers to ensure adequate stormwater management in all future projects. Our communities have suffered long enough. We expect our local government to act swiftly and responsibly to restore safety and normalcy to our neighborhoods while planning for a sustainable future.

By signing this petition, we demand urgent action and accountability from our county officials to resolve this matter effectively and promptly.

My house was destroyed dut to lack of retention pond at otis allen and 16th street. The corner lot was purchased in 2014 for pond.

The golf course was flooded and still has standing water in the back due to water run off from wire road. You need to do something with the areas you now know accumulated water that sat for a month or more. The water sitting is a health issue due to the mosquitoes and stagnant water.

My neighborhood has never flooded yet with Milton it did. What has changed? New housing developments all around us with no thought of consequences. This has to stop!

The pond next to our home flooded therefore destroying our water pump equipment. All had to be moved to higher ground and replaced.

We have been here over 30 years and am sick of the promises to fix this problem and it never happens, and it could have been fixed very easily after the flood in 2004 some of the same houses are going through the same things

The flooding needs to be studied. Especially the elevation to the East of the neighborhood (Evans Property) that restricts the natural flow of the water.

I live off Fort King RD. My property backs up to Hickory Hills and Moore Rd. I STIIL HAVE FLOODING ON MY PRIVATE ROAD, I have talked to Ron Oakley on several occasions and he is WORTHLESS. I have wrote letters to Randy Maggard to no avail. Next stop Danny Burgess and then Ron DeSantis. This is unacceptable. This is how corrupt Pasco county is. Time to vote them all out.
