We urge the Nellie Gail HOA to stop its heartless lawsuit against Karen and Steve Blume and grant a reasonable safety variance for the existing fence extension that protects their goats.
For almost 50 years, Karen and Steve Blume have been valued members of the Nellie Gail Ranch community. After losing eight beloved family goats to brutal coyote attacks, they had to act quickly to protect the animals they still had. They added a nearly invisible, clear, angled extension to their original HOA-approved backyard fence, and that barrier has successfully prevented further attacks.
This is a practical safety measure, not a threat to the neighborhood. The fence is on a hillside, is largely hidden from view, and does not face any homes. Yet instead of recognizing a common-sense solution that protects family pets, the Nellie Gail Ranch Owners Association has filed a lawsuit challenging the fence extension’s appearance and height. According to the Blumes, the lawsuit includes factual inaccuracies and misleading statements about the fence and its impact on the community.
The HOA is also spending community dues on litigation while demanding the removal of the protective barrier and replacement with an expensive double-fence and landscaping project that has no proven improvement in protecting the goats. That is not compassion, and it is not good stewardship of community resources.
We respectfully ask the NGROA Board to reconsider this lawsuit, correct the factual record, and put compassion, common sense, and the safety of family pets first. Protecting animals and preserving good neighbor relationships should come before rigid fence-height rules and unnecessary legal fights.

Why is the HOA suing an original resident of Nellie Gail for protecting their pets, with a fence that is unseen by neighbors? What a waste of HOA dues that we pay. Shouldn’t our HOA dues go towards protecting the people who pay it and not against? We have multiple robberies that aren’t addressed…let’s spend some money towards that. This lawsuit is nonsense and a waste of our dues. So unfortunate!!!
The HOA initiated lawsuit seems misguided and likely to set an unwelcome precedent - insisting on following a technicality at the expense of common sensibilities. The fence serves a purpose that benefits the community through humane protection of goats, without inconveniencing or otherwise hurting the community members. Why is HOA creating a tempest in a teacup?
I don't want my HOA dues going towards this frivolous lawsuit! I care more about the animals than I do about the fence!
It seems the HOA is trying to take advantage of a desperate situation to save animals and make an example out of original homeowners because they did not go to the board first for an extension to an already approved fence. It is punitive, not in the best interest of the community, and a waste of money.
I have walked this part of the trail for years and love being able to see the goats. The fence is in no way a hindrance or eyesore. In fact it represents what Nellie Gail is all about. Withdraw this lawsuit and use our HO dues for something positive to our community.
1st of all nobody's pet should be attacked and mauled. 2nd Their fence is along the horse trail. The riders don't care if its high or what it looks like. We horse riders just want nice footing to ride on, and safety. We don't want to ride up on sweet goats being slaughtered with blood and screaming. Making them take it down is just petty. Let them have their fence!
Goats are more important than the aesthetic of a fence.

I enjoy seeing the goats on my walk and I also know how many times I’ve seen coyotes in my property and jumping over fences. I personally have a 6 foot fence around my house and it’s nothing for them to jump that.
