We, the students of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, wish to raise our concern regarding the recent increase in mess fees and the subsequent discontinuation of evening snacks.
At the beginning of the current semester, our mess fees were increased by ₹2,000, with the assurance that evening snacks would be provided. The facility was available for approximately 2.5 months before the mess contractors stopped providing snacks, citing financial losses.
This raises serious concerns about the transparency and accountability of the mess tendering process. Students should not be charged higher fees for services that are subsequently discontinued. The terms of the tender, including the agreed rates and services, should be honoured throughout the semester.
We request the institute administration to:
- Restore evening snacks as promised at the beginning of the semester.
- Clarify the ₹2,000 mess fee increase and provide a transparent breakdown of the additional charges.
- Review the mess tender agreements to establish whether the agreed terms and services are being followed.
- Ensure accountability from the concerned authorities and contractors.
- Provide a fair resolution to students who have paid increased fees based on the promised services.
Mess fees are paid by students and their families with the expectation of receiving the promised facilities. Students should not bear the consequences of alleged financial miscalculations or failures in contract management.
We urge the IIT (ISM) Dhanbad administration to address this matter promptly and restore the promised services.
