At around 2:30 PM IST, on July 14, 2020, IITKGP administration issued a letter to the students saying:-
- They have reduced the mess charges from INR 12,000 to INR 10,000, or in other words a reduction of INR 2000 for Autumn Semester 2020-21.
- All the students are provided with a 2-week deadline to pay the semester fees, approximately INR 1,20,000 - INR 1,30,000.
- The administration is planning to conduct the semester in online mode.
Since, the semester is going to be online, the students should not be liable to pay the hostel and mess charges which includes water and electricity. internet, accomodation and mess supply. Also, the students won't be attending the classes in the Nalanda Complex. Hene, there must be some sort of reduction in the tution fees as well.

Why should I pay hostel fee if I'm not staying at hostel. And I should get refund of March and April month mess bill as I left the college on March 5.Its completely a big scam/fraud to force the students to pay for the next semester which is going to be online mode.
This system is very worse. No proper electricity supply at my home to study online. I have no money to pay fee of this semester as I used to pay fee through bank loan, my father lost his job last year now he is a farmer and to pay such huge amount is not possible.
Please do consider at least those charges related to hostel facilities , which we certainly are not able to utilize. And if possible try to reduce the mess fees also, just take the necessary amount to give salaries of workers, not more than that. With due respect and hope .
The accademic fee structure is not legal & for 2nd year PhD student , there is no online class but we have to pay the lots of money & our fellowship ( individual fellowship) is stopped from a long time (from April) & we also not know when it will be again started.
This is completely unjustified. Even asking for full tuition fee is not justified. Professor can record a video for all batches and even some of them redirect us to NPTEL. So, giving full tuition fee just to watch free nptel videos is questionable!

administration is taking advantage of students' weaknesses. all the students are at home. So it's difficult for the students to raise any question against this decision. IITKGP administration is taking this as an opportunity and have given payment deadline even before college starts.
