Petition to urge IMU to provide transportation for Gombak visit AND decrease the amount to be paid as hostel fees for BP and Kluang
To whomever it may concern,
The purpose of this petition is to urge the Academic services to :
1) provide transportation for Gombak hospital visit since it is very difficult for everyone to carpool or get a taxi at a reasonable price. This is especially difficult for international students and other local students who do not have a car.
2) IMU is charging the same amount of money for semester 5 even though we spend 1 month away and not using its facility. The whole batch pays approximately 10 million RM and IMU has requested to:
1- charge the batch an extra 130,000rm for accommodation
2- make a lot of students rent out cars for at least 2500rm a month during hospital visit
3- fund our own community research project costing 5000rm (whole batch)
WE WANT IMU TO FUND ALL THAT SINCE 10million seems to be in significant to our additional payments. IF THEY DO NOT WANT then we request to reduce our semester fees since in semester 5 we hardly have any classes compared to other semesters and we spend most of the time outside of IMU.
For those students who cant find anyone for transport and cant afford to rent a car, they are actually thinking of taking a coach to Batu Pahat/Kluang and they feel scared. WE also ask of IMU to consider for their students safety.
3) decrease the amount to be paid for hostel fees in BP and Kluang stay. The amount RM 630 is a huge sum to be paid let alone pay it in 5 days. Moreover the amount seems to be higher than previous batches.
Hence we, ME214, with students from ME115, urge the ASD to consider making these changes as it would help us get rid of this stress and focus more on learning.
Furthermore we request from the ASD to clearly brief us regarding the fees and the changes

im still reading through all the stories people are leaving in the comments and it really highlights how stressful this whole situation is for everyone. i am working on getting all of our points organized so we can formally present them to the admin soon because the current costs for transport and rent just dont make any sense.

im honestly blown away by how many of us feel the same way about these costs. the momentum is real and it shows that we cant be ignored when we speak up together.

We are only actually in IMU for 2months2weeks this semester. Government hospitals do not impose fees for students to be posted there, no? If the posting is part of the curriculum, it should have been accounted for when we paid our fees.
Why IMU did not find Homestays as well in Kluang instead of a Hotel? Please clarify.
I want to know whoever in charge of this to answer one simple question. If your son's or daughters were in imu and paying around 10 mil( all the cohort) in fees and yet the uni doesn't provide transport , we have to fund our own community project ( funniest of them all) and on top of that rent out cars or buses and pay for accomodation. Are you going to be happy with that 10 MILLION money eating university?. Spare me the "we want our students to be independent " if that was really your main (if it was i applaude you) then pay for our accomodation and provide reimbursement for car rental?
I agree that the Accomodation fee for BP and Kluang is very high and burdening for students who have to pay for accommodations back in Bukit Jalil as well.
The hostel fee really burdens me a lot. At least one bus should be provided for those who need it.
Please make this happens! We have to stand together and make a change!

I think the fees we pay should be enough to cover this small thing. Put your shoes in the international students' shoe, they can not drive themselves around here. "Ask their friends" you may say. Well not every local students have the luxury of driving their own car.
