We ask the town of Westport, CT to improve the 4 way stop near Easton Road and Main Street so people can pass through safely and traffic does not pile up in the middle of the intersection. This stop is used by many people in the area to reach the Merritt Parkway, nearby public schools, and to travel through town, so it needs to work well for everyone.
Right now, the area becomes dangerous during rush hour because heavy traffic builds up and cars can get stuck in the center of the 4 way stop. Easton Road connects to Main Street in a way that leaves only room for a couple of cars to move through and merge onto Main Street. At the same time, Main Street is often packed with traffic coming from both the west and the north, which makes it hard for vehicles from Easton Road to get through without delay or confusion.
We believe Westport should take action to make this intersection safer. A long-term remodeling of the area would be the best solution. If that cannot happen right away, a smaller short-term fix like adding a yield sign or a stop sign could still help improve safety and reduce traffic problems.
This change would help residents and everyone else who uses this route each day. A safer intersection would make travel easier, cut down on congestion, and protect people passing through this important part of Westport.
