The prospect of large‑scale data center developments has emerged in our beloved city of Jesup. While technological advancements are essential for progress, this rapid expansion presents significant challenges, especially if not subject to strict regulations.
Data centers have been notorious for their colossal consumption of both electricity and water, resources that are vital to our community.
- The introduction of data centers could potentially threaten the availability and quality of water for our homes and farms.
- Data centers have rapidly become one of the largest and fastest‑growing electricity consumers in the United States. These centers use enough energy to power entire towns, and Jesup's current infrastructure may not support such a substantial increase in demand without significant, and possibly detrimental, impacts.
- The proposed project is requesting that Georgia Power allocate 1.1 gigawatts of power for this development. That is equivalent to 800,000 homes.
- The hum of cooling systems, generators, and other equipment could create a persistent source of noise for nearby neighbors, disrupting the peace and quality of life that Jesup residents value.
- The promise of job creation by data center companies is often overstated. Data centers typically offer few permanent employment opportunities once operational, usually employing a small number of highly specialized technicians. This reality falls short of sustainable economic development, which should prioritize creating well‑paid and diverse job opportunities for our local workforce.
- Construction of the proposed data center campus could last nearly a decade. This construction can significantly disrupt local communities through heavy machinery, increased traffic, and prolonged noise.
Before Jesup approves or allows large‑scale data center projects, we believe the community deserves independent studies, transparent public discussion, and strong regulations addressing electricity, water, infrastructure, environmental impacts, noise, traffic, emergency services, and economic benefits.
Our beautiful community has enjoyed a quality of life that many of us have cherished for generations. The introduction of large, noisy data centers could disturb the peace of our residential areas and damage the local environment, affecting both the landscape and property values.
We are not against technological growth, but it must be balanced with the well‑being of our community and environment. Therefore, it is crucial for our city leaders to enact a moratorium.
A moratorium would pause current and new data center projects until comprehensive studies and regulations are established, ensuring these developments do not compromise our resources or quality of life.

I want to ensure water and the environment are not damaged and that no one's property value or peace is affected.
Wayne county neighbors bought houses in nice neighborhoods and have paid stupid property taxes all to have their dreams squashed. Either they live with this Data Center shoved right on top of them or end up having to move and deal with the loss of value of their property! Because no one will give even close to what the market is now after a data center is built right beside or around them. I think everyone that voted for this should have to live right next to it.
It is the wrong fit for Jesup and Wayne County , too close to Hospice, Bill Morris Park , private school,. Several churches, residences , etc. plus uses way too much water and electricity while they will probably want the taxpayers to make concessions to their company ( tax relief, supply water and power , drainage to them.
Data centers have more pros than cons. They damage the wildlife, pollute and use our water systems and emit noises that affect its neighbors. Our people don’t deserve this and neither does our land.
I fear what will happen to our water table, electric bills, property taxes and environment. The people of the county should have a vote on something as impactful as this.
Invasion of privacy from the cameras. If the argument is it's for safety, I call BS on that. Served in South Korea where there is CCTV cameras everywhere. It still didn't stop crime or thefts. If someone wants to break the law, their going to do it whether there is a camera near by or not. A criminal will still do criminal activity, they'll just figure a way around the cameras. Plus, I have a feeling most folks in Jesup can hold their own. Data centers pollute, it's proven.
Takes natural resources. Adds a lot of loud noise to the atmosphere.

I'm not totally opposed to a data center, but I am opposed to how this was handled behind closed doors with a couple of Wayne co Commissioners in the know as well as a couple of city officials. I'm also opposed to non disclosure agreements being signed. We truly don't know what will be built or what if any restrictions and guidelines have been placed on the data center. This entire project needs to be tossed out and done openly with public input.
