Purpose: This petition demands that the Village of Ilion, New York impose an immediate temporary moratorium on accepting, reviewing, or approving new permits, rezoning requests, or site plans for data centers and high-impact digital infrastructure. The moratorium will let the village amend the municipal zoning code to remove data centers as a by-right use in all industrial and commercial districts and require each proposed facility to undergo a mandatory special-exception or conditional-use review, with well published public hearings, specific operating conditions, and assessment of environmental, health, and financial impacts. In addition, we would seek a requirement of a decommission bond that would force any developer or owner of any type of development, should there be one, to cover any site cleanup costs, should they cease to operate on that site.
We live very close to the location and are very concerned that there hasn’t been enough research in the negative effects it would have on our village and environment. Also, we were never properly informed of the go ahead that the government has given the current purchasing agents of the former Remington Arms site as they have not been completely transparent to the residents. They have not taken any survey with the community to see who is for or against the project.
