FIX THE CHARTER BEFORE MOVING IT FORWARD: DANBURY DESERVES CLARITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY
Danbury residents deserve clarity, transparency, and accountability from our local government.
Danbury’s City Charter is not just another government document.
It is the constitution of our municipal government.
It defines who holds authority, who is accountable to the public, and how decisions affecting our City and its residents are made.
That is why we are asking Danbury residents and community members to stand together and demand that the proposed Charter revision NOT be adopted in its current form.
This is not about political parties.
This is not about personalities.
This is about good government.
Several proposed changes raise serious concerns about governmental structure, transparency, and accountability—including language involving influential, unelected positions within City government.
When a Charter defines governmental authority, there should be no blurred lines.
There should be no conflicting provisions.
There should be no uncertainty about who is responsible for official decisions and actions.
Ambiguity in government creates opportunities for the inconsistent application of power and weakens public accountability.
Danbury residents deserve the time, information, and opportunity to fully understand what is being changed in the document that governs our City.

But revision should make our Charter clearer, stronger, and more accountable—not more confusing.
WE ARE ASKING THE DANBURY CHARTER REVISION COMMISSION AND THE DANBURY CITY COUNCIL TO:
- DO NOT ADOPT the proposed Charter revision in its current form.
- ALLOW additional meaningful public review and community discussion.
- CLARIFY provisions involving the authority and accountability of unelected municipal officials.
- ADDRESS conflicting or ambiguous Charter language before the proposal moves forward.
- ENSURE that every revision strengthens transparency, ethical governance, and accountability to the people of Danbury.
The people of Danbury should not be asked to accept ambiguity in the constitution of our local government.
Our Charter belongs to the people.
Our government serves the people.
And the people deserve clarity.

The lack of full transparency, mutating the process without fair representation of all citizen interests and voices, and ignoring historical debate by members of your own party as to why a 4yr term is senseless and gives power to the administration without the ability for the citizenry to check and balance that power all speaks for itself. As a native of Danbury and bearing witness to many corrupt administrations I wholeheartedly object to the passage of this revision.
The revised charter puts too much power into the hands of a single person, the mayor of Danbury. In a small town like Danbury, where there is not very much transparency within the government, we need checks and balances to ensure that no single person can make important decisions pertaining to finance, hiring, education, etc., without oversight and accountability.
danbury residents deserve full transparency as to why this is being initiated. and it should NapT be fast tracked to align with the next mayoral election. Typically it takes approx 15 months… what is Mayor Alves motive?
We are losing Danbury!
This charter revision did not include Danbury's public opinions at the public hearing. Vote No!
None of the proposed charter changes benefit the population or the tax paying public.
Nothing in our charter should ever take rights or control away from the people and give it to the government

I sat in on all the meetings. This was rushed through More transparency needed. I recorded the 07-09 charter. Took over a year. Not a few weeks. The president of the city council was against a four year term as another former city council member. They should be listened too. A two year term gives the peopleba voice. A four year term takes away our voice. This charter needs to go back to committee for changes that are good for the people. Not the mayor
