We need a policy change at Century Career Center. The current pencil pouch restriction — requiring them to be clear or medically approved — treats all students as suspects and creates an unequal rule that isn't actually enforced.

The stated reason for the restriction is to prevent students from concealing phones. We understand the intent. But the rule fails its own purpose. Students carry phones openly in their pockets throughout the building, and enforcement is inconsistent. A pencil pouch is not a gateway to rule-breaking; it's a tool we need to organize our supplies and do our work.

More than that, this rule assumes the worst about us. A pencil pouch — a basic school supply — shouldn't require special permission or transparency. We are told repeatedly about the consequences of breaking rules. We know the stakes. Trusting us to follow them means trusting us with the ordinary tools of learning.

Clear or approved-only pouches also create barriers for students who need specific supplies or organization systems. Medical exceptions exist for good reason, but everyday school supplies shouldn't require that same justification.

We ask Century Career Center administration to allow students to carry standard pencil pouches — like any other school supply. Enforce phone policies consistently if that's the concern. Don't treat pencil pouches as the problem.

Students are ready to follow rules we understand. We're asking for a policy that respects that and treats us fairly.

I don't have classes in the CC, but I think this rule is completely unreasonable. Not all students have time to go to their locker before and after class to grab their pencil pouches!

I NEED MY PENCIL POUCH!!! I don't have enough time to go back to my locker after my class in the Career Center. My pencil pouch holds all of the important things I need; pencils, pens, highlighters, stuff I need for my classes. If I can't carry it around, I won't be able to have my stuff with me and I am not about to put it in my pants pockets for the whole world to see, especially if it's a hygiene product like a tampon.

I may not have any classes in the CC, but if I had to by a whole new pencil bag just because it would be clear would be a whole new level of irritating! If you can't trust your students, maybe that means they can't trust you in the first place

I don't have CC classes this year but the CC is super far away from a lot of the lockers! People may not have the time to get their things! Or need certain items on them.
