PETITION TO THE CITY OF ST. PETE BEACH

Maintain the Historic Alleys of Pass-A-Grille and Restore Alley Trash Collection South of 22nd Avenue

To: The Mayor, City Commission, and City Manager of the City of St. Pete Beach

We, the undersigned residents, property owners, business owners of Pass-A-Grille, respectfully petition the City of St. Pete Beach to preserve and maintain the historic alley system serving the neighborhood south of 22nd Avenue.

The rear alleys are an essential part of Pass-A-Grille's historic character and daily function. Many homes and businesses were intentionally designed with garages, driveways, parking, utility access, deliveries, and waste collection from the rear alleys. These alleys reduce congestion on narrow residential streets, enhance neighborhood safety and appearance, and contribute significantly to the unique charm and character of Pass-A-Grille.

For many years, trash collection occurred through these alleys. The discontinuation of alley trash service has created unnecessary burdens for residents and businesses, requiring refuse containers to be moved to front streets that were never intended to accommodate regular waste collection. This negatively impacts accessibility, aesthetics, sanitation, and the historic character of our community.

We respectfully request that the City:

  1. Maintain all public alleys in Pass-A-Grille south of 22nd Avenue in a safe and accessible condition.
  2. Remove or prevent obstructions that interfere with lawful access by residents, service vehicles, emergency responders, and sanitation equipment.
  3. Resume trash collection through the rear alleys wherever such service was historically provided and where access is available.
  4. Recognize the alley system as an important component of Pass-A-Grille's historic infrastructure and incorporate its preservation into future planning and maintenance decisions.
  5. Work collaboratively with residents and businesses to ensure the continued functionality and preservation of these historic public rights-of-way.

Maintaining the alley system and restoring alley trash collection will improve neighborhood livability, preserve the historic integrity of Pass-A-Grille, support local businesses, and better serve the residents who rely upon these unique public assets every day.

We respectfully ask the City Commission and City Administration to give this matter prompt consideration and take the necessary steps to restore these important municipal services.
