Final supporters
I would like us all to rally together and get as many signatures as possible to show our local council and our Main Roads how passionate we as parents are about installing zebra crossings or traffic light crossings at and around our High Schools to protect our kids.
I have made many phone calls and been given the run around as each department passes the buck to the next “it’s not our responsibility”.
With so many kids at our school now it blows my mind that we have not one safe place for them to cross. Kids run frantically across O’Brien and Highfields Road when there is the slightest break. Or motorists who understand the problem simply stop and wave them over.
Highfields roads are getting busier and busier, what do we have to do to protect our kids? I personally don’t want to wait until something happens before the departments deem it necessary.

I spent the entire morning watching students dash across Highfields Road while drivers barely slowed down. The excuses from the local council are getting thinner and I am currently drafting a formal letter to demand accountability for this ongoing danger.

Seeing this grow so quickly reminds me that I am not the only parent terrified by these road crossings every morning. It has been exhausting to be ignored by the council for so long but this surge of support gives me real hope that we will finally force them to listen.

Kids are crossing between cars that are stopped into traffic that is moving. The moving traffic can not see them. I would feel awful hitting a child. But there's nowhere safe to cross so they play Frogger on a daily basis
As a parent of two HSSC, one who has asd, and as a driver in the area at school times... It is abundantly obvious that the volume of vehicles rushing to their destinations, and the students wandering along distracted and rushing also, are all taking too many gambles and we need more crossings to keep drivers and pedestrians safe.
My daughter has just started at the high school. There is no safe place to cross O'Brien's rd or Highfields rd to safely walk home down Kratzke rd. Please fix this now before we have a fatality.
It is not good enough for the TRC to put off vital infrastructure development like this - holding out to pass the cost on to someone undertaking a development to shift the direct cost. Safe crossings for school kids on these major roads is a community priority - the TRC needs to listen and act now.
Highfields road is in desperate need of a crossing to help school kids cross near Highfields hub. Kids and adults have to play chicken to cross the road before and after school. Only one side of the road has a full footpath to ride bikes along Highfields road too... hope there are plans to build a complete path at some point on the other side.
Crossings are needed on Highfields Road and O'Brien Road to enable the HSSC students to cross these very busy roads safely. There are many students who take risky chances of running across the roads when they see a break in the traffic but only need a small mishap for a serious injury to happen. It is very dangerous and I fear for the kids who have to cross these roads.
I find it crazy the amount of people who also do not follow the 40 speed limit. Stay safe

Thanks for pushing this crucial agenda! This absolutely needs to be addressed right now to avoid an inevitable tragedy! There have been terrible incidents at other schools in the area and near misses here already ! Denying responsibility is unacceptable by any and all concerned stake holders
