We are petitioning the Key Food at 589 Prospect Avenue in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn to improve the deplorable conditions, selection, and customer service.
This petition will be sent to the Owner and Managers of the Key Food, and also to Key Food Corporate Headquarters.
Specific demands include:
1. IMPROVE THE STORAGE AND QUALITY OF PRODUCE. Currently, the produce is not misted as it is in other stores, or stored at the proper temperature, which leads to wilted greens, mushy cucumbers, limp broccoli, etc. A remarkable percentage of the produce at this Key Food is past its prime, if not literally rotting, and should simply not be for sale. We ask that Key Food remove subpar produce from the shelves, and take steps to ensure fresh, quality produce.
2. STORE TOFU AND VEGETARIAN "MEAT" PRODUCTS PROPERLY. Currently, these products are stored with the fruit, which is not at a proper refrigerated temperature for the tofu-based products. Nearly every day there are bulging packages in this section, indicating spoilage. This is a serious health hazard and must be rectified. These products should be stored in the meat or dairy sections.
3. REMOVE EXPIRED AND MOLDY PRODUCTS FROM THE SHELVES. Customers have purchased bagged lettuce, muffins, milk, and meats, only to get home and find that they are moldy or expired.
4. RESPOND TO CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS IN A CARING MANNER. When customers at this store complain about problems like the ones described above, the staff is disinterested or downright rude - even when the complaints are about spoiled food that could make people sick. Sometimes spoiled food is left on the shelf. Employees here could use better training in customer service.
5. TO IMPROVE THE SELECTION, START A CUSTOMER WISH LIST. This selection at this Key Food is sorely lacking in several areas - even in comparison to other Key Foods such as the one on 5th Avenue. To start to rectify this situation, we suggest giving customers a forum to request that the store carries new items. If enough customers request an item, it makes sense to carry it.
We urge you to make these changes, which will not only benefit customers but will benefit Key Food financially. If these changes are implemented, business will increase at your store. People will no longer go elsewhere for produce and meats - such as Fairway and the far-better Key Food on 5th Avenue. So please respond immediately to these serious and well-founded concerns. Thank you.
Walking through those aisles yesterday was just as frustrating as the first day I started this. I am still collecting your stories about spoiled items to make sure management understands this is not just an occasional mistake.

Seeing this momentum grow reminds me that I am not the only neighbor tired of coming home to spoiled groceries. I am honestly moved that so many of you have shared your own frustrating experiences at this store.

Finally someone said it. I stopped buying veggies there months ago because everything is always slimy or wilting by the time I get home.

Stopped going here because the staff is so rude whenever you bring up an issue. They act like you are bothering them by wanting groceries that arent moldy.
