This petition is to encourage Leicester City Education Authority to Re-open Western Park Open Air School as a centre for special needs education as it was prior to closer in 2005.
Western Park Open Air School, Located in the City of Leicester was built in 1930 this school was once the pride of Leicester a purpose built Open Air School to educate delicate chidren.
In 2005 the local authority closed this school and a month later a web site dedicated to its memory was created and launched, on the 20th Sept 2011 Western Park Open Air School was granted Grade II Listed Building status by English Heritage making it a place of national importance to Medical History.
Western Park Open Air School is one of only seven built in the united kingdom however Western Park is the only one still standing and without redevelopement.
LCC wishes to spend £6.5 million on building Special Needs Centres which is a waste of public cofers when a building which was brought up to standards in 1990 for was closed in 2005 after providing delicate children with education for 75 years, because special educational need was considered better in mainstream schools.
Now it sits unused costing an undisclosed sum a year to be secured 24/7 by CCTV and guards, What a Waste RE-OPEN it and let the site continue to be used to improve the way special needs education evolves over the next 75 years.
The increase in support has prompted a formal request for a meeting with the Leicester City Education Authority to discuss the current site maintenance costs. We are now preparing a briefing document that outlines the viability of repurposing the building for special needs education.

I would love to see this building put back to its original use, especially as it is situated in such lovely surroundings.
