In 2021 the National Federation of Women's Institutes (NFWI) has enacted an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy that allows anyone who "identifies as a woman" to join Women's Institutes. This policy was updated in April 2023, we believe this is due to pressure exerted by this petition.
Read the submission to the Board of Trustees dated 7 February 2023 - this request was rejected on 15 March 2023.
We, the undersigned, believe that this puts Women's Institutes in an untenable position. Its objectives* are under threat, it cannot legitimately campaign for women-specific issues, and individual WI's constitutions have been de facto changed without members' consent to allow anyone to join, regardless of sex.
We, the undersigned, are calling for:
1. A moratorium on trans women joining - current trans members could remain members.
2. An expansive debate involving the whole membership on the wider implications of this policy (embracing gender ideology) not only to the WI, but to wider society. The WI is, in part, a campaigning organisation and campaigns on society-wide issues.
3. A membership vote to decide whether Women's Institutes revert to being a sex based membership organisation, or embrace gender ideology as per the current position.

- to promote sustainable development for the public benefit by:
- educating people in the preservation, conservation and protection of the environment and the prudent use of natural resources and
- promoting sustainable means of achieving economic growth and regeneration
- to advance health for the public benefit, and to advance citizenship for the public benefit by the promotion of civic responsibility and volunteering (NFWI website.)

I have severe CPTSD. I am unable to be in a close proximity to biological men because of trauma, so I have to self-exclude. So this stance is discriminatory for people like me, where I would, or feel safe if there was a transwoman in the group
I have put off joining because of the embrace of the trans cult within the institute. I'm 42 and would argue that the WI really could benefit from attracting women of working age. I will not join until the WI take a stand to protect natal women.
No point in having a support group for women, adult human females, which allows males in. Woman is not a “feeling”. Trans identifying males do not become us. They need their own clubs; even if that does not give them the “validation” they seek.
If males are allowed to join and remain in the organisation - its no longer a women’s only organisation. If its not a single sex based organisation then the name needs to be changed to People’s Institute as its disingenuous and false advertising otherwise.
I have wanted to join the Women's Institute, it has always been an important part of my family, with my Mum and Grandmother being members over the years. But I do not want to be in a women's group that prioritises males and gas-lights women.
I would like to join the WI but feel unable to whilst you insist on allowing men in womanface to be part of your organisation. Why are you pandering go this small percentage of men over actual WOMEN? Your predecessors must be turning in their graves.
It's in the name "womens" institute, not one single woman of the billions born on earth has ever had a penis

There are so few places where women can meet to have discussions on a wide range of issues without males diluting the female perspective. This is vital for democracy, so, no, men should not be let in. I have yet to see a TW say anything a woman would say.
