On 16th April 2025 the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom clarified that sex in the Equality Act 2010 meant biology. The National Federation of Women's Institute continues to allow men who think they are women to join and excludes men without the protected characteristic of "gender reassignment". It is highly likely that this is illegal discrimination.
Not only is it legal, it is necessary to exclude this subset of men, to ensure the Women's Institute is acting inside its constitution, which states "membership is open to women" and to comply with charity law.
We want the WI to follow the law and exclude men from its membership, no matter how they identify.

Women deserve and need single sex spaces, as do men. WI needs to be single sex for women and for the law; Men’s sheds needs to be single sex for men and for the law. Don’t be like Stonewall - don’t be sued.
I left the WI because they champion the rights of men over those of women. I was president of my local WI, it folded because I left (no one wanted the committee roles) So the WI didn’t just lose 1 member over this, it lost a whole group.
WI was set up in 1928 by very strong women who wanted to provide a space for women to come together away from men. So this constitutional policy should be respected and carried on for women only
We have a man in our WI, completely alters the vibe of the meetings and Social events, no longer all women as everything is dominated by this one man who we are all slightly afraid of.
Now I have retired I was considering join G the WI but I do not want to be in a group where men are pretending to be women as I would not feel safe or comfortable.
The Supreme Court ruling was correct! Women are entitled to single sex spaces for our privacy, dignity, safety and social activities. The suffragettes would know the law!!!
It's the Women's Institute. It should remain as such. Any man who wants to join is highly suspect.

The failure of the CEO of the WI to support Women's rights during the horrific years of trans ideology is shocking . My WI in Mid Wales will be leaving the WI at our next AGM. We will be setting up our own Women's group in the village which will be for Women's only. The CEOs mealy mouthed response to the law does not reflect the feelings of the WI membership.
