I believe the frequent "speed trap" leaving the Westford Town Common is unfair as it disproportionally penalizes drivers for accelerating a few seconds early and does not catch people speeding in a meaningful way or promote public safety. I support the Westford Select Board working to change this.

I agree, the sharp turns of the common serve to slow traffic naturally. Although I have never been ticketed there, I do not feel it is fair to ticket a person accelerating into a higher speed zone. The police should be instructed to issue warnings only.

END IT PLEASE...give tickets GOING INTO TOWN...not leaving it!! Or better yet, give tickets WHERE IT MATTERS...on the dirt roads!
Enforcement would be better served on the dirt roads cutting across town rather than on 128. Although policing may be more visible to the public as they work this section of westford it's still not going to help those residents who have to live on our cross town "back" roads.
We don't need speed traps. We need enforcement where it can be scary to walk on the roads already identified by folks (I can only speak for Old Stage)
Our town doesn't need speed enforcement. Let the cops spend their time doing something useful and not bothering tax payers as they go about their day.
Yes, put the speedtraps where they are needed, not here where they are just an easy way to pull over more cars!

I agree that that speed traps just to make a statement are unfair. I got picked up on one of those just crossing the Champlain Bridge in N.Y. It was very clear that speeding was not a danger there. They, and Westford law enforcement need to focus on places where someone could be harmed, rather than where their impact is felt in the media or in the town/ state coffers.
