The Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) has rejected Island Kids' application to become a Learning Bridges site with no explanation. But we are not giving up!

It is clear that DYCD has no understanding of the unique childcare needs of Roosevelt Island families due to our geographic location. Providing parents with one option, away from the Island, exacerbates the stressful circumstances that families are currently living under.

PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION AND LET THE DECISION MAKERS KNOW HOW CRITICAL THIS PROGRAM IS TO ROOSEVELT ISLAND FAMILIES!!!

Roosevelt Island families as well as those with children attending school on the island need access to a learning bridge site on the island. It could serve not only the Roosevelt Island community, which has a high number of first responders and essential personnel, but also nearby communities in Long Island City and Astoria.

Roosevelt Island is a must for a Learning Bridges site. Requiring families to travel across a river by subway car or crowded bus to access a site feels cruel, in the current covid environment.

Yes please!! We moved to roosevelt Island specifically from Alabama so that our children could stay close on the island for school. I am a nurse practitioner in the city and my husband works in the computer from home. He has been unable to perform and get paid with both girls learning remote usually 4 days awake. We need learning bridges on Roosevelt Island!! Thank you!!

As a single working mom of two young kids, it is important for me to have a local Learning Bridges site close to the school the kids attend. In addition, the kids are already familiar with Island Kids staff. Kids need constants in their lives, especially in this very disruptive period in which we are living.

Our RI community needs this important service. “It takes a village to bring up a child”, and Island Kids has been at the core of early childhood education and extracurricular education in our village for 30+ years. As a former Executive Director of Island Kids, I know first hand the benefits of this program. It is essential to our community.

It is critical to have learning bridge program in Roosevelt island for kids on the island, to minimize the exposure in public transportation. Please, help to have this program on the island!!

Why are the children always the first to suffer from political interference. Our community is unique and Island Kids has long met the needs of both parents and children. We need Island Kids to be a Learning Bridges site.

Roosevelt Island children need Island Kids' to become a Learning Bridge site. It is a challenge for the children of RI to make the extended commute to other locations.
