Why are the children always the first to suffer from political interference. Our community is unique and Island Kids has long met the needs of both parents and children. We need Island Kids to be a Learning Bridges site.

Roosevelt Island children need Island Kids' to become a Learning Bridge site. It is a challenge for the children of RI to make the extended commute to other locations.

Island Kids is an established childcare provider on Roosevelt Island. Though Roosevelt Island is not typically considered a high need area, a large proportion of the housing units on Roosevelt Island are reserved for low and middle income families, and fully 35% or more of our local public school's student body qualifies for free lunch. For those PS/IS 217 students and families, and for the many families of Roosevelt Island who work as front line health care workers, the availability of a Learning Bridges site on the Island would be a huge benefit. Those benefits would extend beyond our immediate community through permitting Roosevelt Island health care workers to be fully engaged in their work over the coming months as a possible second wave of Covid-19 hits NYC.

Island Kids has been an excellent and realiable child care provider for our daughter to back us up when schools are closed. Now more than ever, we will need their help as Covid-19 has and is changing how we work and do things.

We need Island kids here in Roosevelt island because not many child care programs are opened in this island. It is hard to go outside of island with kids.

Roosevelt Island is a must for a Learning Bridges site. Requiring families to travel across a river by subway car or crowded bus to access a site feels cruel, in the current covid environment.

As a physician, mother, and resident of Roosevelt Island, there is an absolute need for Learning Bridges on this island during the pandemic. Travel to the Upper East Side Learning Bridges Center requires a lengthy commute by public transportation which entails risk of COVID19 exposure. Having a Learning Bridges center on the island would allow many families here to utilize a much needed resource at this time. My children have attended Island Kids afterschool and summer camp for years, including this past summer, and Island Kids has done above and beyond what is required for the safety of children and counselors during the pandemic.

Roosevelt Island is a unique community geographically and it is urgent that we have a Learning Bridges program here to support our island community. We are New Yorkers, and many in our community are essential workers as well. It is unfair to expect them to shuffle their kids back and forth to Manhattan based programs in the midst of a pandemic. We need an accessible program right here and we have the perfect provider in Island Kids.
