"You know what could really help school spirit?... If there were parking spots for everyone." - student Jo Landau
Let our university know that we do not support this decision. University funds should go toward student needs, and what we need is more parking. Unless we can park our cars inside this giant hawk, we don't want it.
This petition cannot stop the hawk from being built. But it can still serve to voice our opinions, and let the university know, that their students do not approve of such wasteful spending.

just saw we hit 250 signatures and honestly its wild that so many people feel this strongly about the parking mess. glad to know im not the only one who thinks a bronze bird is a massive waste of tuition money.

im still reading every single comment about the parking situation and its clear that pretty much everyone would rather have a place to put their car than a giant bronze bird. thanks for sticking with me while we remind the school that student needs should actually come before statue budget meetings.

I didn't choose Montclair because it has the most "school spirit." I chose it because it was practical. I realize that a University is a business in which the customers have no say, but I'm disappointed that the administration places greater value on appearance than function.
I love how they think that a giant red hawk is going to help the school yet my dorm hasn't had heat for most of the semester, calcia has black mold, there is not enough parking, and the food at Sams still makes everyone sick.
There are a handful of things that would actually benefit this school that such a large amount of money should be spent on. We don't need a bird statue, when our art building is falling apart and our commuter students can't fit in our parking lots.
As a parent paying for out of state tuition, I do not want my money being put to use to buy a hawk sculpture. Parking is definitely a priority. Make the spending useful, ask your students what they need.
What's worse is that at least $100,000 of this statue is coming from students' pockets (we pay toward the SGA and they've agreed to pay toward the statue). I can almost guarantee that NO student would approve of this statue if we had a say in what our money is being used on.
Break the Statue.
We should have a protest! Spitting on the statue and spray painting it. We're all in serious debt here.. this school is a joke.

This is such a disgrace!! Think of all of the scholarships that could have gone to students! Parking, financial aid, charities, much needed renovations to some buildings just to name a few other things. They are saying it was "needed". I'm sorry, how do you justify "needing" a 12 foot, $210,000 bronze statue?! It's absurd and a disgrace.
