As per Section 223 of the Municipal Act, we, the undersigned, are petitioning the Niagara Falls City Council to pass a bylaw to dissolve the at-large system and implement a ward system for the 2026 municipal election. I certify that I am an eligible elector in the City of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and have only signed this petition once.

I honestly did not think this would gain so much traction when I first typed it up on my laptop during a rainy afternoon. Seeing how many people actually care about local ward boundaries is honestly wild and kind of overwhelming in a good way because it means maybe we can actually change how things operate around here.

Niagara Falls is the largest city still using the at large system At large was practivable in small villages were everybody knew everybody and selecting 4 or 5 people to run things made sense. All candisate meetings cannot be held with some 30 people running. With wards, voters can get to see and choose from the 5 or 6 people running.
The ward system makes sense for Niagara Falls for so many reasons. It will simplify communicating concerns residents have and help address specific issues certain areas have. Make councillors more accountable. Bring Niagara Falls in line with the vast majority of other towns and cities. Make campaigning less of a challenge for new candidates. An online petition is an excellent idea and hopefully this will highlight the dissatisfaction with the present system.

I know of no expert on municipal governance who recommends at-large election of Councillors in a city of 100,000 population. A ward system is not perfect either, but for a city as large as Niagara Falls, it is the preferred alternative.
A Ward System will be more representative of Niagara Falls communities and residents.
I am for wards.

I absolutely support this petition. I lived in the downtown area and saw how neglected certain areas of the falls are compared to "wealthier" areas.
