We the undersigned electors of the City of Kingston request Kingston City Council place a referendum question on the 2014 municipal election ballot. We ask you to allow voters to choose whether members of council should be elected by district or by city-wide representation. This would allow Kingston voters to exercise their democratic franchise for the following reasons: enhanced accountability, improved representation, unique needs of each neighbourhood, and greater access to elected councillors. As the initiator of this petition, my name is Joe Hawkins and I can be contacted at, 607 MacDonnell St, Kingston ON, K7K4X2, for further information in relation to this matter.

The scale of this support has secured us a formal meeting with the city clerk to discuss the requirements for a referendum question on the ballot. We are currently finalizing the verification process for the address data provided to ensure our submission meets all municipal standards. I will provide a status report once we have confirmed the upcoming agenda for the council session.

Wards are outdated. We need council to look at the big picture instead of just their own small slice. 442 Alfred St, K7K 3S7.
