I started this because I felt so much pain for what happened to Kane, but I never imagined so many people would join me in seeking justice. The stories you are sharing in the comments are heartbreaking to read and remind me exactly why we have to keep pushing for accountability. This momentum belongs to all of you.

Firstly, the trapper should be charged and harshly punished for trapping out of season. Secondly, for trapping so close to a residential area. Lastly, if Emerson could release the dog, the trapper could have. He could have severed the snare if the dog was aggressive. We he did was horrific and undefendable.
I want him jailed for a very long time and he should NEVER be allowed to have a gun anywhere near him . He is the type of person who give all gun owners a bad name . He should never be allowed to have an animal , people who hurt animals will hurt a human being just as easy .
I do not understand how the law can hold that this is not a felony because there was no "torture". Kane wasn't tortured, being caught in that illegal trap??
This man needs to held accountable, he deserves the maximum plenty on all charges, he should also have to pay restitution to Kane's owner for Kane as well as lose wages, pain & suffering...
If Martin had been punished properly rather than just "cited" for trapping violations in the past, perhaps poor Kane would still be alive! When is Vermont going to take enforcement of animal protection statutes seriously?
Lock him up for good!!
A sickening act on Richard Martin's part. Jail time please.

It's pathetic that their is more charges for illegally trapping than their is for actually killing the dog. Time to cange the law and make it a felony.
