The machine in fredericksburg was broken all last week. I tried to pay on the train and they just threatened me. this system is a joke.

180 dollars is crazy! nobody has that kind of money just laying around. fix the machines instead of robbing us.

Same thing happened to me. I must moved to Virginia.

I bought a 2 way round trip ticket at Fredericksburg and road to Alexandria. I VALIDATED my ticket prior to boarding. I normally take the Amtrack to go back home. But i was tired so i decided to take the VRE back home. I sat on the train and showed the conductor my ticket. He told me my ticket wasn't validated. However he never told me how it wasn't validated or how to. He only told me it had to be valitated pm too. I have rode the VRE many times and never was i told this nor did it give any indication my ticket wasn't valitated. I PAID 20 bucks for a ride there and back! I gave him my drivers license and my ticket him not even telling me why when he asked for it. I thought he was going to help me but instead i get A COURT SUMMONS paper ! The conductor then proceeds to harass me into signing the summons.I politely tell him "Sir i do not feel comfortable signing something that i do not understand} he proceeds to to get frusterated and rude as he rolls his eyes as i tell ! him that i don't understand what he means by validated. And when i asked him how to validate it he wouldn't answer me. I told him that if i did something wrong i didn't mind paying. But i thought i'd just pay the difference. He then proceeded to say "Well if you don't mind paying" not realizing it was a 180 dollar fine. So then he tried to get me to sign. Again i declined. He told me he was going to write "Passenger refused to sign" He got very flustered and handed it to me. He then gave me my licence back and kept my ticket before he left. I am very upset and i am not afraid to get a lawyer. have never been so upset with the VRE in my life. I paid for my ticket i shouldn't have been treated like a criminal!
