This petition is for commuters and families in Virginia who stand with Mark Dudenhefer. Commuters need a strong advocate in Richmond, who has a strong record of improving Virginia’s infrastructure and reducing traffic in our region. Mark Dudenhefer has proposed real solutions to reduce traffic, increase our quality of life, and make daily commutes easier. Mark is against balancing the budget on the backs of commuters. Mark is against the 4% fare hike that the Virginia Railway Express wants to impose. The 4% hike is estimated to cost commuters over $900,000 in the next year. Mark Dudenhefer is fighting these fare hikes and has proposed real solutions to prevent taxes on commuters and middle class families. The volume of support has now reached a point that allows us to secure a formal meeting with the transport committee. I am finalizing the briefing documents that outline our opposition to the fare increases. These materials will be delivered to the board office by the end of the week.

While I DO NOT currently ride the VRE for work purposes, I have in the recent past and always found the VRE to be perhaps the BEST mass transit option for commuters in the Metro DC area. I felt the value was excellent when compared to that other mass transit system, the DC Metro, and with a better overall safety record. It would be a shame if the fares were increased and thus diminish the value that VRE provides over its competition.
Raising rates doesn't have a positive impact on commuting. Need to not be in it for profit

The commute is already bad enough without these price hikes. Someone needs to step up and fight for us for once.
