Spectrum Youth and Family Services is the youth services department of the Township of Schaumburg. It is a counseling and social service agency for young people, ages 10 to 21, and their families.
At 650 W. Higgins Rd., Hoffman Estates, the agency operates the Vogelei Teen Center, in cooperation with the Hoffman Estates Park District and the Village of Hoffman Estates, as part of an intergovernmental project for youth services. The teen center, established in 1986, is equipped with amusements and recreational outlets for adolescents (ages 12-19) – like pool tables, foosball, video games, board games, cards, stereos, TVs, magazines, and casual seating. The Vogelei Teen Center is supervised by professional counselors, assisted by trained volunteers. The center helps prevent juvenile problems by offering teens alternatives to just loitering, unwelcome and unsupervised, at shopping centers or other self-styled “hangouts.” By developing relationships with youths who visit the center, staff members provide the extra adult support and informal counseling that many adolescents need. Moreover, teens with specific problems on their minds also have ready access to professional counselors.
Due to financial restraints, as of March 1, 2010, the Village of Hoffman & the Hoffman Estates Park District may be withdrawing from the intergovernmental project that funds the Vogelei Teen Center. Therefore, the teen center needs support from the community to stay open, including a new funding source to pick up where the village & park district left off (approx. $60K per year). Vogelei was the best part of being a teenager in Hoffman estates. Don't take this away from the next generation.
My son loves that place. Please reconsider this decision.
Total incompetence by the village. Find the money somewhere else and leave the teen center alone.
This place has helped so many families in our town. Cutting funding for youth services is always the wrong choice.
My kids go here all the time. Such a shame to lose a safe place for them to hang out after school. Keep it open!

WHERE ARE THESE KIDS SUPPOSED TO GO?? Just letting them roam the streets instead of having supervision is a terrible idea.
