The bureaucrats finally backed down and the memorial stays exactly where it belongs. We forced them to respect our history instead of tearing it apart. Keep your eyes open because we will be ready to fight again if they ever try this garbage in the future.

I am starting a petition in support of the Veterans Memorial in Taos. People are trying to have it removed without understanding the cultural significance it has to Taos and its people. Help me to show our support of this 60 year old memorial.

I am a resident of Taos and a Military Veteran of 27 years of service. By removing this cross you are violating my cultural rights along with disrespecting and dishonoring all the Taos veterans of past and present.
The cross is a part of Taos' cultural history. Why should visitors have a say in a what could be a permanent change to our environment? They can choose to go elsewhere if it bothers them so much.
These memorials are needed to protected as they remind people of those fallen and those who protect us today still. We not only use these to honor the Fallen but to also recognize the families that sacrificed so much with their loss as well. Please don't let a memorial that means so much to so many be removed!!
We have the right to choose a symbol of memorial that stands with our cultures and traditions, it doesn't force a religious preference it's a recognized symbol of memorial, just like the headstones at Arlington National Cemetery! Keep the cross!
Taos' culture is eclectic and varied. Let's keep it that way by honoring the past as well as introducing new cultures while respecting those already in place.

As a 4th generation Jewish, Taoseña I strongly support keeping the cross and the Veterans Memorial in Taos Plaza. Northern New Mexico and our spiritual symbols/meanings are unlike anywhere else in the USA. To understand what I mean you would have to come to our communities and speak with our elders. Besides the memorial and cross sit on a Taos Pueblo owned easement that is not leased to the town or county. Good luck suing a sovereign nation FFRF!
