Veterans Day is always on November 11th. Veterans Day is a federal holiday that honors all of those who have served in the military, past and present. We celebrate and honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, willingness to serve, selfless sacrifices, and love for their country.

Pocono Mountain School District should add Veterans Day to the list of holidays that they close school for. Veterans Day is equally as important as, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day and Easter. Without these brave men and women who served and continue to serve today, we would not have the freedom and liberty we enjoy, and so many take for granted.

It takes a great amount of courage and sacrifice to do what they do. Many of these great men and women have families of their own who they have to leave behind as they go to defend their country. My brother Kevin Doherty is currently serving in the military. I couldn’t be more proud to call him my brother. He means the world to me.

The least we can do for our military veterans is to honor and be thankful for their unselfish deeds, On Veterans Day and every day. They deserve our respect.
