Residents of Berkeley, Alkington, Ham and Stone currently have to drive 13 miles to use the GCC tip in Horsley. The nearest public tip is in Thornbury 6.5 miles away. This makes no sense - it is an unnecessary cost, less environmentally efficient and affects almost every household. By making it more difficult to dispose of waste responsibly, the incidence of fly-tipping has increased which blights our landscape and is costly to remove. We want Gloucestershire County Council to work with South Glos Council and agree a system which will allow GCC residents to make use of the South Glos facilities. It is increasingly important that councils work together to ensure that residents who live on the border of the county do not lose the basic rights and access to amenities that are afforded to other tax payers.
Thornbury is my local town where my daughter goes to school and where I do all my shopping. I live only meters away from the dividing line that forces me to travel to Horsley, which is never anywhere remotely near my normal daily routine. We get frequent fly tipping in the lanes round where I live.
