I live on the edge of the city limits and have plenty of space for a handful of hens not only for eggs, but for their amazing composting ability. 2020 showed us all how fragile the commerce chain is and how important it is for us as individuals to strive for self sustainability. There is no reason to not allow residents to raise hens.

I don't see why the city keeps being against this. You have many homes in rural residencial zones yet we can't have chickens but big Cities like Chicago and New York can? It just doesn't make any sense. If they listen to the residents for once many so many people wouldn't be leaving. Roscoe and Rockton allow chickens. Considering a move.

I have had backyard chickens for the last seven years. We live just outside of the Rockford city limits. The fact that they won’t allow chickens is one of the reasons that has kept us from buying a home inside the city limits.

chickens are safe pets. They are less noisy than dogs. Chickens also is a great pest control in that they eat weat, mosquitos, ticks and other unwanted insects

It's another thing that you can tax, ticket, or permit... bringing money to the city. A limit of a few hens and no roosters, would rarely be a nuisance and would provide fresh eggs for residents. A simple online system could be used for applying for permits and for submitting nuisance complaints.

Rockford is in dire need of more affordable ways to feed a family. Home gardens and coops could be the answer to this, it itwould give fresh eggs, oreven meat, for a percentage of the cost that it would be in a store, it would also be healthier as homegrown would not have as many chemicals as pre-packaged foods would.
