I’m reaching out to invite you to join a petition requesting that UPMC reopen its provider network for credentialing. Many of us have been denied entry due to the network being labeled as “saturated,” despite ongoing and significant demand from UPMC members seeking care.

We continue to receive referrals from individuals who are unable to find in-network providers, which suggests a clear mismatch between patient need and provider access. This petition aims to collectively highlight that gap and advocate for improved access to care for clients and fair network participation for providers.

If you’re willing, I’d greatly appreciate your signature and support. Please feel free to share this with other providers who may be experiencing the same challenges.

Thank you for considering and for the work you do to support our community.

While I am already credentialed with UPMC, I know that I cannot handle the number of UPMC clients who reach out looking for services. There is a strong need for more therapists, particularly ones who, like myself, specialize in working with one or more marginalized communities.

Supporting colleagues who want to be in-network. Demand from your members is at an all-time high and those of us in network are full with constant waitlists. Let more providers in and streamline your employees in the contracting department to process applications in a more timely and effective manner (we waited 6-9 months for each credentialing application to be finalized with paperwork "lost" on UPMC's end multiple times during the process despite us having email receipts of transmissions that were previously confirmed received by your staff.) No other insurance plan has chronic barriers like this.

It is unfortunate for my UPMC clients that they have had to pay out of pocket for therapy instead of using their insurance due to UPMC’s decision to pause credentialing. UPMC is creating an artificial barrier to care.

I live in rural PA where UPMC is one of the main insurance providers. The practice I work for is having to turn clients away even though they have open slots because they opened a year ago and haven't been able to get added to the network for UPMC. The only other options are nonprofits who have months-years long waitlist for private insurance due to the lack of available licensed clinicians in this county. Pittsburgh area may have a full network, but rural PA certainly does NOT.

Thank you for forming this petition, this is becoming a huge barrier not only for our clients getting care but clinicians staying in this role (and avoiding burnout!).

Between claims of market saturation and the extremely long wait for credentialing, UPMC clients are the hardest for my practice to serve.

As one of the areas largest providers, it is a shame to see care being limited.

Many local therapists have waitlists!
