Please remember to be mature in the comments, and to sign the petition only once with your real name in order to increase credibility.

As of Jan 3, 2016, Burlington High School, MA, has totally blocked wireless internet access for personal devices such as laptops. The reason was to test the limits of the school's bandwidth. This test will continue for about a month into February. However, the effect of blocking the internet for these devices has rendered personal computers that students have bought with their own money useless. These personal devices were essential in math, science, programming and any VHS (virtual high school) class. These personal devices were also extremely convenient for any student who preferred to take notes on a computer, as the current technology issued by the school has limited compatibility to what these courses are demanding.

To add, as of Jan 3, certain students who had school-distributed devices were unable to connect to the Wi-Fi as well. This has ultimately led to some students of the high school to not have any access to internet for the school-issued devices for the entire day, hindering productivity in a technology-based school. The purpose of this petition is to raise awareness for this inconvenience, and a demand to re-allow internet access for all personal devices so that students may continue to be productive at a 1:1 technology-based school.

I am honestly stunned to see how many of you have joined this effort. If we can reach one hundred signatures today, we will have a much better chance of showing the administration that this is a real problem for our students.

Try writing a five page paper on mass incarceration and its relation to dystopian novels regarding the future on your ipad and then we'll talk. Try filling out numerous college applications and submitting essays to these institutions on your ipad and then we'll talk.

I didn't buy a 1400 dollar laptop to just have it sit around my desk. Ridiculous that a school that promotes technology is prohibiting its use. Waste of students and teachers time money and resources.

I can attest to the fact that VHS classes are a pain on an iPad so a laptop is a necessity, but both are useless without wifi.

AP Java is much harder if you can't use your own device, I speak from experience. Also, my iPad is incapable of loading the Google Drive PDF textbook for Calc BC, meaning I have to spend a month's worth of time in class for homework just waiting for the bell.

A school cannot spend about six plus years getting teachers to use this technology, having them put all their lessons, classwork, and homework online, and then take away the key that allows students access to the education administration pushed to make digital.
