As of Jan 3, 2016, Burlington High School, MA, has totally blocked wireless internet access for personal devices such as laptops. The reason was to test the limits of the school's bandwidth. This test will continue for about a month into February. However, the effect of blocking the internet for these devices has rendered personal computers that students have bought with their own money useless. These personal devices were essential in math, science, programming and any VHS (virtual high school) class. These personal devices were also extremely convenient for any student who preferred to take notes on a computer, as the current technology issued by the school has limited compatibility to what these courses are demanding.

To add, as of Jan 3, certain students who had school-distributed devices were unable to connect to the Wi-Fi as well. This has ultimately led to some students of the high school to not have any access to internet for the school-issued devices for the entire day, hindering productivity in a technology-based school. The purpose of this petition is to raise awareness for this inconvenience, and a demand to re-allow internet access for all personal devices so that students may continue to be productive at a 1:1 technology-based school.
