You can make a difference!
The Turtle Rock Environmental Committee would like to share some exciting news with you!
We have a proposed project to plant lovely butterfly and water gardens around the small bare pond (TR-6) on the west side of Turtle Rock Blvd, between Timber Chase Way and Meadow Rush Loop.
Our hope is to unite the community in creating a beautiful environmentally friendly area we can all enjoy. This project will help in the efforts to make our neighborhood a better place for all of us, our wildlife and our watershed. Our goal is to plant butterfly gardens in several areas around the outside perimeter of the pond and to plant aquatic plants and flowers within the pond. We will also plant shoreline grasses and flowers.
A few of the numerous benefits would be to oxygenate the water to rely more on plants than chemicals to control algae, and to reduce bank erosion. Robert Wright, of Sarasota County Water Resources, cited a case study at Waterford in Venice where they experienced 4 1/2 feet of property loss due to erosion. Imagine, we can reduce this in our community!
We have located a sizable sum of money in available grants so far, none of the funds for this project will come out of homeowners dues.
These actions will beautify that area immensely, while also improving water clarity and wildlife habitat. Please sign our Community Support Statement here! All household members may sign, we need each individual signature. We will have more coming soon about other ways you can help with this wonderful project!
Please leave your name below. We will not use any of your information for any purpose but for community support proof. The street address is needed to prove you live in Turtle Rock. If you do not live here and are signing support as a concerned citizen, or are from an organization, please state that in the organization line.
Comments are appreciated.

Great idea. Keep the chemicals out and let nature do the work. Plus it will look way better than the weeds we have now

That pond looks terrible right now and the smell in the summer is awful. Anything to help the wildlife and hide the mud is a win for us on Meadow Rush.
