Although fats are considered to be a part of our health, there are certain types that should be banned. The one which has drawn the most controversial issues, over any other fat is trans-fat.Trans-fat increases our levels of LDL (bad cholesterol), and decreases our levels of HDL (good cholesterol), which increases our chance of coronary heart disease, heart attack and strokes. Trans-fat has also been reported to cause cancer, diabetes, obesity and liver dysfunction. Do we really want our children consuming this when the outcome is so horrible? A school is supposed to be a place where our children are safe, where parents shouldn't have to worry about their childrens health being in danger. So from here on out as parents or parents to be, we must speak out and let them know our children will NOT eat this junk anymore. We must demand healthier more nutritious foods. If we don't we are headed farther down the path where our childrens generation is the first to have a shorter life expectancy than their parents.

Updates

March 8, 2011

The increase in support has triggered a formal request for a meeting with the district board. I am currently finalizing the briefing materials that outline our specific demands for updated cafeteria procurement policies.
