The current policy of the TVDSB requires that if one child in a school has a food allergy, all children are banned from bringing this food to school. We understand that food allergies are very serious, however, making every other child suffer is not acceptable. Parents have a right and responsibility to provide healthy foods for their children, which includes a balanced diet. Just about every food has the possibility to become an allergen. These allergic children must be taught how to care for their allergies and protect themselves, much like diabetic children.
It is getting harder and harder to pack a kid's lunch. Children are often picky eaters by nature, and a family budget often does not include fanciful alternatives. Parents have been bullied for far to long to accomodate many when a select few are at risk. We live in a society where majority rules.
There are peanuts, eggs, shellfish, kiwi, bees, pollen, cats and other allergens everywhere. Policing and controlling the masses will not assist in protecting these children in the future.
The TVDSB administrators continue to ignore the impossible strain they are placing on working families with these absurd lunch bans. I am tired of seeing parents bullied into submission by policies that teach avoidance instead of real world preparation for these children. We are not backing down until they stop policing our grocery lists.

I am so sick of trying to figure out what is allowed in a lunchbox everyday. Making lunch shouldn't be this complicated.

Schools need to focus on education not policing what kids have in their sandwiches. Its just getting out of hand now.

Ridiculous. Are we going to ban the sun because some kids get sunburns too? Stop coddling everyone and teach the kids to be responsible for themselves.
