Flemington-Raritan school district is providing unsatisfactory school meals which include
fast food style menus withhighly processed foods that contain artificial
additives and preservatives. Our children deserve better.
Our
children are the first generation in history to have a lower life expectancy
then that of their parents. At least 30 percent of children in the US are
overweight, childhood obesity has more than doubled, and it is predicted that
one in three will develop diabetes before adulthood. For many of our students, school lunch is
their only complete meal of the day. We need to make sure it is a healthy and
nourishing meal. We need the school district to enforce the policies that are
in place.

SCHOOL NUTRITION/WELLNESS
It is the
position of the Flemington-Raritan School District to take a leadership role in
promoting healthy behaviors by providing students, staff, and the school
community with the knowledge and skills they need to be healthy and productive.
Improved health optimizes student performance potential by increasing a
student's capacity to learn, reducing absenteeism and improving physical fitness
and mental alertness.
It is
our belief that there is a direct link between nutrition intake and regular
physical activity and better academic achievement and positive self esteem. It is our goal to promote the consumption
of nutritious foods in school, provide opportunities for students to engage
in physical activities and provide health and wellness education.
