As residents of the 25th Ward, we've become aware of some alarming traffic on the 4000 block of Spring, between Meramec Ave and Alberta Street. Too often, motorists ignore stop signs and reach high speeds on this very tight stretch of Spring. This is troubling because of the number of children living on this section of the street, including in our home.

The street is very narrow in the above mentioned block and certainly that lends itself to this being a tight-knit community. But there have been many occurrences here in which sideview mirrors have been damaged or destroyed; our suspicions are that speeding cars driving too close to parked vehicles are the cause. We also have concerns about speeding motorists when carefully opening our street side car doors.

We are urging St Louis city officials to complete a traffic study to determine what calming measures can be employed to reduce the amount of speeding in the aforementioned block. Should the study find cause for speeding abatement measures, we believe speed humps could help to reduce dangerous traffic behavior here and increase safety. Our goal is the safety of our children, ourselves and our vehicles.
