The board officially approved our request for a full-time security resource officer at Twin Peaks. Knowing my own kids will walk through those doors feeling safer makes every moment of this fight worth it. Thank you for staying by my side while we pushed for this protection.

We, the undersigned, as parents of Twin Peaks Charter Academy (TPCA) students and concerned community members, support the addition of a Security Resource Officer (SRO) at our school. The safety of our students is paramount, and as a K-12 school, a safety officer is an essential resource.
An SRO is a standard resource available to the high schools in the St Vrain School District, and TPCA students should have the same level of security as the other schools in our community. The addition of an SRO will ensure our school is an environment where the children feel safe and their learning is not disrupted by safety concerns.
We are requesting the support of the Longmont PD and the St Vrain Valley Board of Education to secure the funding and staff to make sure this resource is in place by the start of the 2019-2020 school year.

Nosotros, los abajo firmantes, como padres de los estudiantes de la Academia de Twin Peaks Charter (TPCA) y miembros de la comunidad interesados, apoyamos la adición de un Oficial de Recursos de Seguridad (SRO) en nuestra escuela. La seguridad de nuestros estudiantes es primordial, y como escuela K-12, un oficial de seguridad es un recurso esencial.

Seeing this kind of movement confirms that so many of you share my fear for our kids at school. Reading your comments makes me feel less alone in this fight to get our students the same protections as everyone else.

Seeing the numbers climb reminds me why my own kids deserve the same protection every other local student receives. We are right on the edge of triple digits and pushing past that mark will force the board to finally acknowledge our demand.

I think it would be wise to have an armed person(s) at our school and also someone the kids can share concerns with when they know things aren't going well with a classmate. If an SRO is the best person to meet these needs I'm for it.
We need officers at twin peaks. There are two main entrances to the building, therefore there should be two officers. Normal school buildings only have one entrance so one officer is enough. In order to provide protection for our poorly designed building, there needs to be two officers
I was a student here. It was scary having no one to protect us in case of something terrible. I went to Niwot my first two years. They had an officer there and the officer was amazing. He established connections with the students and became very well liked. An officer at twin peaks would benefit everyone
In addition to the training SROs can utilize in an emergency, they form relationships with students regarding safety issues and are in touch with the mental health climate at the school in a unique way, and, as such, can have a profound role in the prevention of dangerous situations. The safety of students at Twin Peaks is as important as at any other district school.
If requests are made and nothing is done, it leaves our school district with a very large liability exposure. This exposure, along with the possible exposure to our children, most definitely outweighs any expense to the district. I believe our school is at a much larger exposure with having such a broad range of ages.
Please provide a Security Resource Officer to TPCA our children need to be protected and need the security of knowing they are safe and being protected from the threats that we face as a community through out this day and age.

I teach at a middle school in Thornton and we have appreciated the officers that come from the Thornton police department. I have watched for 20 years the positive relationships the officers build with the students, their parents and the staff members. Students develop a trust in the officers that carry over to their lives outside of school.
