Started by 22nd Skytrain Station Master Plan 3 years, 4 months ago

We, the residents of Connaught Heights, are writing to you about the conditions of the city. Our area has over 40% of dwellings constructed in 1960 or even earlier. We feel that not enough has been done to improve the area, compared to other parts of the city.

We understand that there is a plan to develop the area around the 22nd Street SkyTrain Station, but so far no significant progress has been made. Some of us feel like we are in limbo, waiting for the city’s “bold vision” to be developed.

Connaught Heights is a very old area with over 40% of dwellings constructed in 1960 or earlier. As such, we need your help in making some necessary changes.

WE ASK THE CITY TO:

•Much needed expansion of existing arterial routes in out of 20th street

•Additional park space to create a calm environment within an increasingly busy city

•Adding the convenience of commercial stores and amenities that can cater to the 22nd skytrain station community, which makes the area more walkable

•Additional road and intersection improvements to ease traffic flow and improve the area walkability

•Safer with more eyes on the roads and sidewalks to prevent crime and vandalism

•Implementing the option of adding more social housing where appropriate.

Seeing this kind of movement confirms that my neighbors feel the same stagnation I do. It has been a long road of silence from the city but the pressure is finally starting to build.

This area is in need of high density development for the betterment of the city and its residents.

NW council has been talking about rezoning this area 30+ years. All the owners are in a holding pattern turning the area into an eyesore

This area out and around 22nd street is old and is definitely showing it's age. This bold plan that the city has been talking about for ages has got to be realized and brought to fruition. This area needs to be modernized and be caught up with the rest of the lower mainland to bring in tourism and more modern housing as well as parks and businesses. Come on New West your slipping. Get with it.

Planners: Get up off your butts, Developments could include a proper dog park on Hydro land, upgrades to Grimsone Park, perhaps an aquatic/Rec center where the unused lacrosse box is. The towers will help to exhume Connaught out of the 19th Century.

Our neighborhood is located on the farthest, highest South West ridge of New Westminster, with some of the nicest coastal, ocean, views of Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, and yet, we are considered in all of New West to be the "inferior area" this due , not to location, but neglect of the city. Other neighborhoods such as Moody park are on their SECOND NEW pool, Canada games pool is now the SECOND NEW pool. We HAD a community hall 30 plus years ago, but it was not replaced. The land has sat neglected. It is TIME we had a Community Facility and Park!
