The school administration has confirmed that chairs will be placed at the ceremony for Grace, Job, and Pla. Seeing this request honored brings a sense of peace to our final days as students. We will ensure these spaces remain respected as we walk across the stage.
The graduating class at Albert Lea High School would like to recognize our classmates who have passed away - Grace Zimmerman, Job Sanchez, and Pla Mo, at our commencement ceremony by setting out 3 chairs in honor of them. Please sign this petition in support of representing our beloved friends. Let us graduate, all together.
I'm in Colorado and a few years ago when they honored the kid from the shooting in Denver with a chair, we had Jeep parades and a bunch of stuff. It's the least that could be done to honor fallen classmates.

Please reconsider your decision. Our community needs to heal from the grief of the loss of many young people who were hurting beyond our comprehension. Let those who are left acknowledge the loss of their children classmates and students. It is a time to celebrate but also remember.

The chairs are not only for their classmates to honor those missing, it’s an honorable memorial for the families who have lost their children! Step up Albert Lea HS!

Why wouldn't the administration just simply put three empty chairs and also a small acknowledgement of the deceased? Are they short of chairs? Were they not on track to graduate? This shortsightedness is beneath the intellectual, empathetic, and caring faculty that was there for me when I went to school at Albert Lea High School. What changed?

Give these kids the respect in wanting their classmates who have passed away at such a young age to honor them. It's three chairs representing three kids that didn't get the opportunity to live beyond high school.

These were significant tragedies to lose these young people from our community. We need to teach our kids how to grieve, remember and honor those we have lost. I believe having a simple gesture of having 3 chairs for them would be significant. It might help someone struggling to know that every kid matters.

Allowing the memorial is healing for the students! Not sure why this is even a controversy.
