The Ormeau Park Outdoor Basketball Courts Initiative. We need your support! The Ormeau Park outdoor basketball court is one of the most popular (and possibly the only outdoor) basketball courts in Belfast. The court is in poor condition and requires to be resurfaced. It is currently made of tarmac with a rough and worn-out surface that may exacerbate potential injuries during falls. It is not adequate for the sport to be played on, and needs immediate attention. By signing this petition you would help to make the local authorities aware that this court needs to be urgently upgraded to allow people of any age, gender, race, nationality and wheelchair basketball players to enjoy basketball and improve their skills on a good quality community basketball court. This space should be made available for recreational basketball without charge and for the use of all. The modernised court could constitute an attractive multi-usage space that could be used for other sporting events. The recommended specifications for the court should include the following: • A basketball playing area and backboards compliant with the official regulations and standards. • A suitable dedicated area, to enable control of access for events when required. • A floor surface suitable for high performance play and meeting wheelchair basketball requirements.
