Constructed in the early 1900’s, The Goods Shed is one of Perth’s oldest station buildings. Since being decommissioned as a Goods Shed, it has been used primarily as a storage unit for a number of charities, as well as a housing a building supplier.
FORM, an independent non-profit arts organisation, propose to upgrade the existing building and land, creating an arts and cultural hub forming a link between the existing Claremont Town Centre and north of the train line.
The Goods Shed will be transformed into a lively space housing a gallery, studio, workplace, coffee window, and a publically accessible garden. A series of artist and creative residencies with an associated program of exhibitions, workshops and events will take place in this space. Programming will encourage participation from local community groups alongside high level international thought leaders, offering insights from a global perspective.
To demonstrate community interest,
we need you to register your support for the project. This will help us
raise the necessary funding to return The Goods Shed to its original
purpose – as a point of collection, connection, and exchange for the
Claremont community. It’s time for the Claremont Goods Shed to have a
new lease of life, one that puts it right back at the heart of our

The scale of support reached today provides us with the necessary leverage for our upcoming presentation to the local planning committee. I am now finalizing the formal proposal document to ensure our case for the arts hub is presented alongside this evidence of community demand.

The location, history, size and uniqueness of this location is quite simply a gift to cultural organisations in Perth! I fully support FORMs desire to develop the venue, and sincerely hope Perth Symphony Orchestra get to perform in it!
Revitalising decommissioned infrastructure and buildings helps enliven cities, brings creative and new uses to potential heritage sites and makes communities appreciate their history. The Goods Shed is one of these places; it deserves to live another life as a creative space. The name says it all!!

This will be a green garden oasis where there was once hard surface parking. What a great concept: rejuvenating an historic building as a community meeting spot and art space. Can't wait to see the gardens spring up.

As an urban designer & practitioner within the Claremont neighborhood; I am very aware of the potential erosion of local character that can occur over time, as a Place develops. The "Goods Shed" is potentially a great "Game Changer" for reinventing and revitalizing this community.
