The Chopwell Hotel must not be converted into housing. It must be kept as a building that can be used by the community and is a vital part of the future of our village. We will strongly object to any planning application to convert the building into housing. The Chopwell Regeneration Group are already working with Newcastle University on a plan to make the Hotel a viable business for the community and we fully support this initiative. This petition will be sent to the new owner to ensure they are aware of the strength of the community’s opposition to any residential development of the Hotel.

I honestly cannot believe we hit two hundred and fifty signatures because it feels like just yesterday I was sitting at my kitchen table wondering if anyone else even cared about the hotel. People keep telling me the village is changing but seeing all your names here proves we really do want to hold onto our history instead of just losing it to another boring housing project.

I just saw we hit one hundred signatures and honestly it feels like such a huge deal for our little village. I keep thinking about how the old hotel looks now and how much potential it has to be something actual people can use instead of just empty apartments and really it makes me want to keep pushing even harder.

I spent the morning looking at old photos of the hotel and thinking about how many stories are tied to those walls. The silence from the new owners is frustrated silence honestly but it just means we need to stay loud about our plans for the community space. My inbox is full of emails from neighbors who have better ideas for that building than just another row of flats.

Bit of an Ex-Pat as I don't get into Chopwell as much as I used to. The Hotel was such a focal point in years gone by for pub goers young and old. Everybody knew everybody else in its' heyday. It needs to be brought back into community use.
I understand the regeneration group has some great ideas for the Hotel which would bring life back to Derwent Street. Planning applications for change of use will be objected to so take heed if your plans would be to make money from a distance from our heritage and current hard times.
This building has a massive amount of memories for all Chopwell people, many have laughed and cried and meet new friends here don’t ruin the history of Chopwell with more housing/flats make it into a place people can visit and share memories.
Every empty building in chopwell has either turned into houses or flats. Let's keep the buildings as they were and bring our community back to life. It's good to see some of our shops been re opened as they once were like the coffee pot. Don't let chopwell loose it's identity by taking away all we've known. Keep the Hotel.
This iconic building in chopwell needs to stay for community use. The village is full of empty houses we need businesses not more housing
nostalgic building where the community thrived through this meeting place building community spirit and camaraderie throughout the village
would be mad to become housing. Could also contact me by facebook

The regeneration of this village needs to mean just that and as far as Im concrned MORE housing just doesn't fit the bill when there is so much standing empty already! This lovely building in a perfect central location MUST be retained for community use and small business, otherwise Chopwell doesn't stand a chance :(
