Dear all,

I am concerned with the fact that after a few years of teaching one finds himself exhausted, demotivated and unappreciated. Wages are not in sync with the amount of time spent correcting, preparing your lessons, creating resources, buying material (sometimes equipment too) and much more.

One simple and effective way to ensure new blood (and attract new people)in our profession (in my opinion) is to introduce a scheme where educators have to complete a 25 year service and then they can decide to take a FULL pension or continue teaching.

Anyone who is in direct contact with children can apply for the pension (at the end of the 25 years of service).

I urge you to sign this petition and pass it on to the authorities!

Keep the ball rolling,

your colleague

Reaching one thousand signatures reflects how many of us recognize the physical and mental toll of a long career in the classroom. This milestone confirms that the need for a sustainable path toward retirement is a shared concern among so many dedicated educators.

I didn't think others felt the same way! It's already difficult after 15 years so yes I do agree with this measure and it helps me believe my profession is important for the future of my country.

If we really want to ensure that students are given the best possible learning experience teachers should be allowed to retire after 25 years of service if they like. This will contribute towards having a workforce that is constantly motivated and that strives to really make an impact on students' lives.

Such a scheme is sorely needed if we are to start attracting the best people towards the teaching profession. It is an undeniable fact that 25 years of teaching in today's classrooms is a unappreciated struggle which leaves many exhausted. Our country should seriously and urgently start to reward all educators.

I totally agree. I believe that burnt out is inevitable after so many years in class....it should however be optional. Most especially in kindergarten and early years children need an enormous amount of energy and patience.....As Educators our physical and mental well being needs to be safeguarded.

Teachers provide service to society as much as police/correctional officers/army officials. They should be given full pension after 25 years. Can you imagine a 60 year old working with 8 year okd energetic children?

Like any other person in the public service we should benefit from the retirement scheme, especially because when we get older the generation gap is felt much more and we start getting too tired to keep up with the energy of the kids especially younger ones.

Teachers are the guardians and propagators at the of the culture. It is imperative that Malta retain as many indigenous teachers for the preservation of the language, the history, and the respect of the Maltese heritage, PAY THEM.
