Last year we the media students were promised our own space to increase productivity and social collaboration. After requesting this for so long we finally got the space we needed.
As a result of this we saw a rise in productivity and creativity but after a short period of time we noticed that access to this space was restricted for some reason unknown to the students. The door was locked and we were told we cannot gain access until it was authorised by a tutor which became a major inconvenience and resulted with us hardly using the room to our advantage.
Now UEL wants to take back this space and use it for other purposes that will not benefit us. This will be detrimental to the media students as since acquiring this space we began to make great progress as a whole department as well as individuals.
We had our own designated space to work on projects without distractions in a similar environment to the library but with less noise and still maintain team collaboration and creativity without distracting others around us.
We had a place where barriers could be broken down and for friendships to be built.
We had a place that allowed media students to take studies to the next level and release unlimited potential.
Now we don't.
Now is the time for us to come together and be heard. We need this space.
