El Programa de Lenguaje Dual K-5 del Distrito Escolar Municipal de Ruidoso (RMSD) ofrece una oportunidad educativa sin precedentes tanto para Estudiantes del Idioma Inglés (ELL) como para Estudiantes de Español (SLL) dentro del distrito. Los estudiantes en el programa se ofrecen diversas clases y la oportunidad única de dominar las materias de la escuela primaria en dos idiomas, preparándolos intelectualmente y socialmente para una vida de la compasión y del éxito en la región o en el mundo. El programa de lenguaje dual RMSD es uno de los más largos de su tipo en el Estado de Nuevo México y es un modelo para los programas de lenguaje dual elementales en todo el estado.

Los maestros bilingües en el distrito requieren más calificaciones que los maestros de un solo idioma. Con el fin de instruir e inspirar a los estudiantes de ELL y SLL en todas las materias de la escuela primaria, los maestros de los programas bilingües deben obtener una Certificación Bilingüe junto con un certificado de enseñanza de Nuevo México. El tiempo requerido para recibir una Certificación Bilingüe excede un año de instrucción educativa media-superior. La educación continua también se incrementa. Los profesores bilingües están altamente calificados.

Nosotros, los firmantes, apoyamos a los profesores bilingües en su habilidad de enseñar a sus estudiantes una amplia gama de materias en dos idiomas, y convertir la diversidad estudiantil y lingüística en una oportunidad educativa única y sin precedentes. Nosotros, los abajo firmantes, apoyamos el Programa de Lenguaje Dual y deseamos que continúe en el futuro y que se amplíe para incluir otros grados. Nosotros, los abajo firmantes, también alentamos al Distrito Escolar Municipal de Ruidoso a que considere a los maestros bilingües cuando asignen futuro financiamiento de la beca de Título.

Petition to Support RMSD Dual Language Program

The Ruidoso Municipal School District’s (RMSD) K-5 Dual Language Program offers an unprecedented educational opportunity to both English Language Learners (ELL) and Spanish Language Learners (SLL) within the district. Students in the program are offered diverse classrooms and the unique opportunity to master elementary school subjects in two languages, preparing them intellectually and socially for a life of compassion and success in the region or in the world. The RMSD dual language program is one of the longest-running of its kind in the State of New Mexico and is a model for elementary dual language programs throughout the state.

Dual language teachers in the district require more qualifications than single language teachers. In order to instruct and inspire ELL and SLL students across all elementary school subjects, dual language teachers must obtain a Bilingual Endorsement along with a New Mexico teaching certificate. The time required to receive the Bilingual Endorsement exceeds one year of educational instruction. Continuing education is also increased. The dual language teachers are highly qualified.

We, the undersigned, support the dual language teachers in their ability to teach their students a broad range of subjects in two languages, and to turn student and language diversity into a unique and unprecedented educational opportunity. We, the undersigned, support the Dual Language Program and wish it to continue in the future and to expand to include other grades. We, the undersigned, also encourage the Ruidoso Municipal School District to consider the dual language teachers when allocating future Title III funding.
