Clark Atlanta University has suffered far too long with inadequate support for its athletic programs. Time and time again we have fallen short in making decisions that bring about positive change in athletics which ultimately instills Panther Pride. What's Missing? Someone who carries that Panther Spirit in its heart - a former athlete with a proven track record combined with the love of Clark Atlanta University, the love of student athletes, the love of competition, and the love of education. Loyalty. Responsibility. Dedication. What better qualities than to find in a GRADUATE of Clark Atlanta University - someone who excelled in sports and academics - someone proud to be a graduate of CAU - someone who not only talks the talks, but walks the walk.

DR. PHILLIP MCCRARY, former Panther sports standout - Clark College Class of 1979, B.A. in education. Master’s Degree in mathematics,1981, Atlanta University. Dr. McCrary received a Specialist Degree in 2000 in Educational Leadership from Argosy/Sarasota University. In 2002, he received his Doctorate of Education Degree in Educational Leadership from Argosy/Sarasota University. He has enjoyed 28 years as teacher and coach. Currently serving as Coordinator/Assistant Director of Athletics in Dekalb County School District, Phillip is twice committed having Panther Pride as graduate of both Clark College and Atlanta University.

Some of Phillip's Accomplishments include:

1996 Inducted into Clark Atlanta University’s Athletic Hall of Fame

Griffin Sports Hall of Fame – Class of 2014

Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame – Class of 2012

7-Time Dekalb County Coach of the Year

4-time Georgia Sports Writers Coach of the Year

5-time Atlanta Journal Constitution High School Basketball Coach of the Year

Twice Bobby Cremins State of Georgia Male Basketball Coach of the Year

Phillip's a great former athlete, competitor who was/is well respected by his peers in both the academic and athletic community. As a student at Clark College (now Clark Atlanta U.) from '77 to '81, I covered Phillip's on-field athletic exploits as an aspiring sports reporter for The Clark College Panther newspaper. He was/is a class act. I am reminded of his maturity and encouraging spirit. (Upon graduating from Clark I worked at The Atlanta Journal Constitution as a sports reporter.) There is no doubt that my experience covering Phillip and CAU sports contributed to my early success.
